Current Situation

• Population: 112,564,924 (5.7% aged 65 y.o. and above) – 50% of hip fractures non-surgically treated in rural areas
• Strongly promoting multidisciplinary orthogeriatric fragility fracture care and secondary fracture prevention in the Philippines

Challenges

• The understanding about Orthogeriatric care is still at its early stages locally

• Challenging economic conditions

• Bone health in the elderly is still not a priority by the government.

• Currently supporting the Pilot Philippine Hip Fracture Registry Project

• Supported and helped in the initiation of the Pilot Multicenter Philippine Hip Fracture Registry Project (on-going)
• Local Organizer of the Osteoporosis and Fragility Fracture Segment of the 2022 Asia-Pacific Orthopaedic Association Virtual Congress

• Formulate the Philippine Orthogeriatric-FLS Framework: with focus on family and community involvement
• Multidisciplinary meetings engaging policy makers (with the National Academy of Science and Technology)
