Current Situation

• 240,000 hip fractures in 2020 and expected to be 320,000 in 2040
• FFN Japan established in 2012
• Annual congress 9 times
• National hip fracture database started in 2017

Challenges

• Limited numbers of geriatrician
• Orthogeriatric comanagement has been organized in limited numbers of hospitals
• FLS started in many hospitals since the change of the policy last year. Many hospitals are struggling to organise the team

Exemplar Initiatives and Programs

• National insurance reimbursement for early surgery and secondary fracture prevention for geriatric hip fractures started form April 1, 2022
• All participating hospitals should join national hip fracture database

Activities at a National Level

• 9th Annual Congress (May 4, 5)
• Huge increase of the numbers of hospitals participating in national hip fracture database (over 400)
• Training seminar for FLS coordinator
• Conference with Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare officials.

• Hip Festa: Conference of the all hospitals participating in national hip fracture database
• Several training seminar for FLS coordinator
